JAMES TOMAS
Coach Tomas is one of the two original coaches and founders of the Junior Huskies Tackle Football Club.  He continues to lead and coach the program today.  Coach Tomas also assists in coaching the Horizon High School Freshman Team, a role he took on in 2014. Coach Tomas has a son (Jacob) who played for the Junior Huskies & went on to graduate from Horizon High School in 2017.

ADAM MARZOLA
Coach Marzola is as close to a local as you can get, having played for Horizon High School & graduating in 2001. While playing football at Horizon he played quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback, safety & had various roles on special teams.  He has been a coach with the Junior Huskies since 2016.  Away from the football field, Coach Marzola spends his time partnering with the Arizona Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  azfca.org

STEVE BAST 

With his father serving in the U.S. Air Force, Coach Steve grew up in New York, Colorado, Germany, Michigan & eventually upstate Arizona. Although undersized, he was a member of the football team for four years at Camp Verde High School, playing mostly special teams. For his tenacity, he received the team’s Ironman Award his senior year.  Steve has been a volunteer coach with the Junior Huskies since 2023. He also volunteers with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit that builds beds for kids in need. Professionally, he works in marketing and runs a coworking space called Mixtape, near HHS.

ENRICO PAYNE
Coach Payne has coached within the Junior Huskies program for two seasons in the Defensive Coordinator role as well as coaching up the wide receiver and defensive back positions. A multi-sport athlete, he ran track, cross country and wrestled in high school. He also went on to play football for Contra Costa Community College in California.

CHRIS DORRIS
Coach Chris Dorris is a Phoenix native who grew up playing sports into college and has always had a strong passion for athletics. He began coaching through his sons’ flag football teams, where he discovered a love for mentoring and developing young athletes. Now, he’s excited to have continued that journey by helping coach with the Junior Huskies, bringing teamwork and a commitment to growth both on and off the field.

BRYAN LACHES

Coach Bryan has helped with the offensive and defensive line for the Junior Huskies since 2023. He is originally from North Dakota but finished high school locally and attended ASU. He has 5 sons has been teaching in youth sports and activities since 2005. He is a Scout Leader for the Boys Scouts of America and is passionate about helping teach life skills, reinforcing values, and developing leadership in our youth. 

JUSTIN MURRAY
Coach Murray grew up in Michigan but has proudly called Arizona home for over 40 years. A former football player at North Canyon High School, he’s lived and breathed sports his entire life. From coaching his kids in baseball, soccer and football to shaping young athletes on and off the field, his passion for coaching runs deep. Now in this third season with the Junior Huskies, Coach Murray brings energy and dedication to developing defensive backs and receivers. Beyond football, his world revolves around family, fun, and never missing a chance to be part of the action! 

MIKE METZLER
Originally from California, Coach Mike came to Arizona via the University of Arizona in 1992. He lives in the area and has had one son graduate from Horizon in 2024. He has been coaching youth football since 2016 for various youth programs.

All of our Junior Huskies coaches are VOLUNTEER coaches with backgrounds in tackle football. They dedicate countless hours of their time on and off the field to make sure each player has the proper knowledge to play tackle football safely and with confidence.
